Your blog is a great way to grow your list. Since the readers on your blog already know something about you so they will be more likely to trust you. Since they trust you, they will be more apt to give you their email address. You know they have an interest in your topic because they read your blog. The first place you should start building your list is from your blog.

Opt-in Form on Blog

The first thing that needs to be included on each page of your blog is an opt-in form. This is very easy to do. All you do is add it to your navigation sidebar. The opt-in form should be positioned in the upper right-hand corner of each page.

The first thing you need to do to is to log into your autoresponder and create a new web form. The autoresponder service that I use is Aweber. I recommend that you only capture the information that you really need - first name and email address. You should include an attention grabbing headline as well as a graphic depiction of your give-away in your opt-in form. After you create the form, you copy the HTML code and copy it into a text widget. Now your readers will have the opportunity to join your list from any blog post or page on your site.

If you are using WordPress to manage your blog and Aweber to manage your list, you have two options here. You can either manually add your form via a widget text field, or you can use the Aweber WordPress plugin. Personally, I just copy the code into a text widget as was described above.

Opt-In Form in Blog Post

One of the things you should do on a regular basis is to encourage your readers to join your list from within your blog posts. There are two ways you can do this. The easiest way is to ask your readers to sign up from the content of your post. This can often be the most effective way to get your readers to sign up to your list.

The second way is to add another opt-in form somewhere inside the post or toward the bottom. This will annoy your readers if this is done too frequently so don't overdo it.
